10 Months

Luke turned 10 months on Thursday. Here is what our fun, crazy, busy boy is up to ...

      • He likes to bang things together so they make noise. He will often pick something up (e.g. a Wii remote) and immediately whack it against the nearest object (e.g. the T.V. remote).
      • He still loves people, especially kids. We haven't really noticed any 'stranger danger' with him. He is happy to have just about anyone hold him.
      • He is starting to figure out how to clap. He will clap his hands together rather limply once or twice and then clasp them together and shake them up and down.
      • He is obsessed with sliding things across the floor. He will take anything that will slide on carpet and just push it along with him as he crawls from room to room. This is why I find things like my gel in the closet and the Roku remote in the bathroom. He also loves to roll anything with wheels back and forth or along with him as he crawls.
      • He understands "no" and almost always stops what he is doing when he hears it, but he also usually whines or cries like we just ruined his day. Most of the time he knows when he is doing something he shouldn't, even if it's the first time he's done it. We can tell because he jumps like he's been caught when he hears his name.
      • He likes Sesame Street, especially Elmo. He smiles every time he hears Elmo's voice.
      • He constantly pulls himself up on everything and everyone and he walks along furniture really well.
      • If he is on tip toe, he can reach door knobs.
      • He is a pro at sitting down from a standing position and transitions quickly and seamlessly from position to position (e.g. crawling, sitting, standing, knees, etc).
      • He usually wakes up around 1:30am, 4:30am and 6:00am every night and gets up for good between 7 and 8.
      • He is a picky and inconsistent eater when it comes to baby food. Currently, he loves vegetables (sweet potatoes, squash, green beans) and hates some fruits [apples (unless it's a real apple - he only hates applesauce), bananas], while he is okay with others (berries, tropical fruit). He also won't drink juice. We've tried apple juice, and a couple of different mixed fruit drinks, but he doesn't like them. He likes almost all non-baby-food foods, but he is still not very good at feeding himself, so it would take too long to feed him those all of the time.
      • He sucks on his fingers when he's hungry and lately, he chews on his index fingers with the gums on the sides of his mouth constantly because all of his teeth seem to be coming in at once.
      • He is Destruct-o Boy. He drops and pushes everything onto the floor, rips apart anything that will tear and he tries to squeeze to death everything he gets his hands on.
      • He loves to open and close cupboards and drawers (we've already had a few pinched fingers) and he is becoming more and more interested in the toilet.
      • He still can’t get enough of animals, especially dogs. I mean he really loves them. Hopefully Jeff will let us get him one some day.
      • He has recently become more interested in taking things out of their place and then trying to put them back where they were (e.g. the silverware in the dishwasher while Mommy is doing the dishes) and he is pretty good at it.
      • He is extremely ticklish under his chin, on his ribs, and on the insides of his thighs.
      • He has recently added na, ga, da, and oo to his list of sounds.
      • One of his new favorite games is to yell, "Ah!" Then, Jeff or I will mimic him. Then, he yells, "AH!" even louder. We mimic him. This is usually followed by, "Ohhhhh." We mimic. And then, the pattern repeats itself. We can usually get him started playing this game just by saying "Ah!" once or twice.
      • Very recently, he has started shaking his head 'no' (although he doesn't know what it means) and he thinks it's really funny when we do it back at him and then he does it again, etc.
      • He laughs all of the time, but some days, he can go from happy, playful, and laughing to whiny, clingy, and crying for no apparent reason in a flash. We love him anyway, though. And we give him the benefit of the doubt, and blame the whining, clinging, and crying on those dang teeth that are all trying to cut through his poor gums at once. Most of the time, he is such a fun and sweet little boy.
