Sundays

I love Sundays! They are days full of spiritual upliftment, quality time with family, and relaxation. Take today for example. Jeff and I brought Luke into bed with us in the morning and listened to a very beautiful and soothing CD by Jewel called Lullaby. I bought it yesterday at Wal-Mart to use at Luke's bedtime. It put all three of us to sleep.

We spent the rest of the morning talking and playing with Luke (He had an unlimited supply of smiles to share, as usual), watching our weekly Disney movie (The Little Mermaid this time), and making banana bread muffins before getting ready for church at 1:00.

It was a beautiful day outside so before church, we stopped by Wheeler Park for a little picnic of chicken salad sandwiches and strawberries. It was delicious and even though we forgot utensils, we made it work.

Who needs a spoon? Jeff skillfully scooped the chicken salad onto his bread.
Luke was very content being outside on such a beautiful day.

After church we talked to our families on the phone and with Jeff's parents on Skype. It was so nice to have our conversation accompanied by video. We'll be doing that with them every week from now on and soon Grandma and Grandpa Lamb, along with some of my siblings, will be joining in on the Skype fun.

We also officially started Family Home Evenings with Luke tonight. We will do the lesson on Sunday night and the activity on Monday night. For the lessons, we found a website that has pictures that can be printed, colored, and used on a flannel board. The pictures are grouped into different stories from the scriptures and each group is accompanied by scripture references and a summary of the story in words that children can understand. Every Sunday, we will read and discuss the story and then color the pictures, which we will later use on a flannel board when Luke is old enough to appreciate it.

Luke laid on the bed with us while we colored. For some reason, he kept staring at the ceiling fan light. It was pretty clear that staring at that bright light wasn't good for Luke's eyes so I shaded them with the blanket.

The story tonight was Abraham and Isaac. Here are all of the pictures after we finished coloring them.

This post had such wonderful timing for me! I went to a R.S. get together this week on FHE and have been thinking about it a lot. Jace and I have made monday night more of a date night since it is his day off, but I've been wanting to add a lesson somewhere. Having the lesson on Sunday is such a great idea! And the flannel board stories were on my list of really cool things to do with kids.
