February 10th was my very last day watching Bethany and Becca (and their mama, Caitlin's very last day of work)! We decided to make it a good one by making heart-shaped cookies for Valentine's day in the morning. I let the kids participate every step of the way (they even took turns adding every 1/2 teaspoon and 1/4 cup of each ingredient to the bowl) and they LOVED it!
Things went from giddy to sad real quick when I told Luke he couldn't eat the cookie dough while I was standing back to take a picture.
But he got over it when I told him he could watch the cookies bake in the oven.
When the cookies were cool, I gave one to each kid to decorate. They each had their own little container of red or pink colored frosting and a spoon. It was so entertaining to observe the differences in their cookie decorating techniques...
Bethany took a very careful, focused, perfectionist approach ...
She took her time and made sure to cover every bit of her cookie. Look at that concentration!
Rainbow sprinkles. Bethany spent several minutes collecting stray sprinkles from her paper towel and putting them on her cookie. She wanted it to be perfect!
She didn't sneak a taste of the frosting until her whole cookie was frosted and the sprinkles were on!
So cute! For some reason, this reminded me right away of my childhood Easy-Bake Oven.
Bethany really doesn't like to get messy or sticky. She asks for a wipe the moment any food gets on her hands, even if she hasn't finished eating yet. So, you can imagine it took her a ridiculously long time to get up the nerve to pick up this sticky-pink-frosting-covered cookie!
But she was really glad she did!
Luke took the "one for you, one for me" approach, slapping each spoonful of frosting onto the top of his cookie, and then sticking the spoon in his mouth ...
Whoops! Can't let that go to waste!
This is about as frosted as Luke's cookie got before he decided to throw a few sprinkles on and devour it. And he washed it down with a few spoonfuls of red frosting.
And last, but not least, Becca. She had no patience for cookie decorating. She immediately dove right into her cookie and the frosting. With an un-frosted cookie in one hand and a spoon in the other, she took bite after bite of each, and they were gone before I even had a chance to offer her sprinkles!
A big bite of frosting right off the bat. Yum!
Messy, messy girl! This girl can get a messy face eating anything, but I knew it was game over when I handed her a cup of pink frosting and a spoon.
Luke really wanted another cookie. And he couldn't understand why I wouldn't give him one when there were so. many. left!
But the rest of the cookies had to be saved for our CTR 4 class at church on Sunday because we were celebrating Brynlee's 5th birthday! I decorated them the next day ...
The kids were pretty excited to have colorful frosted sugar cookies for snack instead of graham crackers (not that they don't love their graham crackers)!
Brynlee grinned so big when she saw her personalized cookie. So sweet!
My fav.
One of our other CTR 4 girls, Samantha (she is cute) gave Jeff and I a Valentine at Church that Sunday. How cute is that?! These are the kinds of things that really make me love our calling!
During sacrament meeting, Luke acted really interested in the sparkly letters on the front of the card, but his true intentions came to light when he suddenly flipped the card over and tried to rip one of the 3 Musketeers off!
